How much light does a pothos need?

A pothos does best in bright indirect light. It will survive in low, and on direct sun: avoid direct afternoon sun; variegation fades in deep shade.

What those words actually mean in a room

"Bright indirect" is the most misused phrase in houseplant care, so here is the plain version. The test that matters is not how bright the room feels — your eyes adjust and a plant's leaves do not — it is how much sky the plant can see from where it sits.

Reading the plant instead

All-green reversion on a variegated plant means it moved somewhere darker.

Light also decides how often this plant drinks — the same pothos in brighter light dries out faster and wants water sooner. If you are moving it, expect the watering interval to move with it: how often to water a pothos.

The interval is a starting point. Your pot is the answer.

Plantroster tracks what each of your pots actually does — season, the forecast where you live, and whether the soil was still damp last time you checked — and tells you when to check this one, not when to water it.
