Privacy policy
Short version: the public guides collect nothing at all. If you keep a plant roster, that data is yours, it is stored under your account, and the only third party that ever sees a photograph is the service that reads it for you.
The public pages collect nothing
The plant guides, problem pages, toxicity pages and calculators set no cookies, run no analytics, and include no tracking pixels or social widgets. The calculators run entirely in your browser: a postcode typed into the frost-date tool is used to fetch a forecast and is not stored.
If you create an account
Signing in is handled by Clerk, which sets a session cookie so you stay signed in. Plantroster stores an opaque account identifier rather than using your email address as the key to your data.
What is then stored, on Cloudflare infrastructure:
- Your plants, the spots you define, and the notes and care events you log
- Photographs you upload, held in private object storage and served only to you
- Your postcode and derived coordinates, so the forecast can be fetched for your location
- Reminders and alerts generated from the above
Who else sees it
- Anthropic — when you ask for a photograph to be read, that photograph and the relevant context for that plant are sent to Anthropic's API and a reading comes back. This is the only case where an image leaves this site's storage.
- PlantNet — if a second opinion on identification is enabled, a photograph may also be sent there.
- Open-Meteo and Zippopotam — receive coordinates or a postcode to return weather. Neither receives anything about you or your plants.
- Clerk — handles sign-in and holds the account record.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site, the database and the image storage.
Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone not on that list.
Advertising
Plantroster does not serve advertising, and no advertising or tracking cookies are set by this site. If that changes, this section will describe exactly what is collected and how to opt out, before any ad is served — the text is generated from whether advertising is switched on, not from memory.
Affiliate links
Some pages link to soil and potting components on Amazon. Those are affiliate links: if you buy through one, this site may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. They are marked in the page markup as sponsored links, they never change what the calculators recommend, and the site owner's own clicks are excluded from tagging.
Your data
You can delete any plant, along with its photographs and history, from within the app — permanent deletion is permanent. To request a copy of everything held under your account, or to have the account and all of it erased, get in touch and it will be done.
Children
Plantroster is written for adults who keep plants. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
Material changes will be reflected here with a new date at the foot of the page.
